Helen Stephenson, nee Stavropulos, 83 of Rockford, formerly of Glen Ellyn for 30 years, died on May 1, 2007 at P.A. Peterson Home in Rockford. Born October 12, 1923 the daughter of Demetrios “James” and Sophia, nee Giannopoulos, Stavropulos; beloved wife of Stephen “Steve” D., whom she married September 7, 1950; loving mother of James (Diane) Stephenson of Indianapolis, IN, Karen Stephenson (Dr. Michael Kikta) of Rockford and Alex Stephenson of Lisle, IL; cherished grandmother of Nicholas, Andrew and Christine Stephenson and Michael Kikta; dear sister of Alex (Dolores) Starr of Nashville, TN and Christina Paulus of Bensenville, IL; sister-in-law, of Sophie Starr; aunt, of many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Helen was preceded in death be her parents and her brother George Starr. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 AM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Family and friends will meet at 2 PM Saturday for burial in Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove. Visitation Saturday, from 9AM until time of service. Helen graduated from Austin High School in Chicago and worked part-time for 15 years for the Glen Ellyn Park District Senior Program and also worked for Cry Babies retail store in Glen Ellyn.
