* Usher’s mother has been his manager since he was a teen, but now the superstar says he wants her to be just “Mom.” The Grammy winner denied the professional break with Jonnetta Patton was due to any rift.

* A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by actor Andy Griffith, saying a Wisconsin man who changed his name to Andy Griffith and ran for sheriff did not violate federal copyright or trademark laws. The actor, who played Sheriff Andy Taylor on the “The Andy Griffith Show” in the 1960s, filed suit last year against William Harold Fenrick, who compared himself to the TV character during his unsuccessful run for Grant County sheriff in southwestern Wisconsin.

* Ty Pennington, host of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” apologized to his fans and co-workers Monday after he was arrested for investigation of drunken driving. Pennington was arrested on a misdemeanor charge shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday by the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.
