Joseph Johanik, 80, of Lombard, died on May 4, preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Joan S. Johanik, nee Vacuda; loving father of Jeanine, Judi (David Zych) and James (Heidi); proud grandfather of Nicole, Jacob, Derek, Peter and Jeremiah; respected brother of Frank and Mildred; loyal friend to countless. Joseph was born and raised in Westmont residing in Lombard for the past 38 years. He served his country proudly in the Pacific Theatre of World War II with the U.S. Army. Many will remember his life as the proprietor of O.K. Builders Hardware, 10 years of service as Lieutenant of the Westmont Fire Department, four years as the Westmont Building Inspector and most notably four years of service as Westmont’s Village President where he founded the Westmont Park District and served as it’s president. In addition to his public service record, Joseph was a proud member of the Carpenters Union 1889 and 141 a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a charter member of the Westmont VFW. Family will receive friends for a remembrance gathering at the Toon Funeral Home,109 N. Cass Ave., Westmont on Monday May 14, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private.
