THREE UP

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett became the majors’ first seven-game winner as he fired seven innings of five-hit ball, giving up one run and striking out five in a 9-2 win over the Blue Jays. Beckett had support, getting four homers, including a three-run shot by Dustin Pedroia.

Tigers utilityman Omar Infante, starting in center field in place of Curtis Granderson, drove in a career-high four runs as the Tigers defeated the Mariners 9-7 for their eighth straight victory. His two-run triple in the fourth inning gave the Tigers a 5-4 advantage.

Two days after agreeing to a prorated $28 million contract with the pitching-starved Yankees, Roger Clemens wore pinstriped pants and a Yankees cap while throwing from a mound at a workout at the University of Kentucky. “The arm feels good,” Clemens said.

THREE DOWN

Jae Seo continued his struggles as he gave up five runs and six hits in three innings in the Devil Rays’ 8-3 loss to the Orioles. He has given up 56 hits, an AL-high 37 runs in 32 2/3 innings and has an 8.82 ERA. Seo has failed to make it past the third inning in three of his seven starts.

Eric Gagne came off the disabled list to return to his role as Rangers closer, but he did not pitch in an 8-2 loss to the Yankees — the Rangers’ ninth in their last 14 games and seventh straight to the Yankees. Akinori Otsuka (four saves) will go back to his job as setup man.

Jorge Reyes, a minor-league pitcher with the Mets, was suspended for 100 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Reyes is the first player this year to draw a 100-game suspension for a second violation.
