A Wednesday afternoon transformer fire outside Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn led to an evacuation of staff and possible cancellation of Thursday classes, the school said.

No one was injured, and classes already were letting out for the day when the fire began just before 3 p.m., said Pamela Zimmerman, associate superintendent of Glenbard Township High School District 87.

The transformer was in a maintenance corral on the west side of the building, 670 Crescent Blvd., where garbage cans are kept and where administrators park their cars, she said. No other structures burned.

Thursday classes depend on whether ComEd can get power restored, Zimmerman said.

If classes are canceled, parents will be notified by telephone, and information will be available on the school’s Web site, www.glenbard.net/Glenbard(underscore)west.

The school said a Wednesday honors convocation was canceled and will be rescheduled.
