Whatever deprivations Terry “Tank” Johnson suffered in Cook County Jail, he wasn’t lonely, according to a visitors log acquired Wednesday by the Tribune from the sheriff’s office.
More than a dozen Bears teammates stopped by to keep him company, with fellow defensive players Adewale Ogunleye and Chris Harris making the most visits. Brian Urlacher popped in twice. Rex Grossman stopped by once.
His bosses showed up too.
The jail assigns each inmate one primary visiting day, and Johnson apparently got Sundays. On at least one occasion, April 15, he had 19 visitors stacked up. Notably absent was linebacker Lance Briggs.
Johnson, who was sentenced in mid-March to 120 days in jail and fined $2,500 for violating the terms of his probation on a 2005 weapons conviction, is expected to be released Sunday after 60 days of good behavior.
Like any other inmate, Johnson’s nearly 100 visits took place in a room with about five cubicles where inmates are separated from each other by partitions and from their visitors by glass, said sheriff’s spokesman Bill Cunningham.
