The Associated Press is asking presidential candidates questions about their personal tastes, habits and backgrounds. Tuesday’s question: What pets live in your home?
Democrats:
– New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: Cats Jake and Squeaky.
– Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich: Harry the beagle-basset, Lucie the beagle and George the cocker spaniel.
The Republicans:
– Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: Jet, a black Lab, and Sonic, a Shih Tzu.
– Arizona Sen. John McCain: Sam the English springer spaniel, Coco the mutt, turtles Cuff and Link, cat Oreo, a ferret, parakeets and 13 fish.
But how would these pets stack up against the pantheon of presidential pedigrees?
Barney: President Bush’s Scottish terrier is a publicity hound with his “Barney-cam,” which once drew 24 million online surfers.
Buddy Clinton: The frisky chocolate Labrador retriever stood by his owner during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Macaroni: Caroline Kennedy rode her pony around the South Lawn.
Laddie Boy: Warren G. Harding’s Airedale terrier had his own chair at Cabinet meetings.
