At $3.21.9 per gallon, the average price of regular-grade gasoline in the United States today reached an all-time high, matching, after inflation is taken into account, a peak reached in the early 1980s.
It’s higher on the West Coast, at $337.2 per gallon, according to the weekly report today of the U.S. Department of Energy. And it’s higher than average in the Midwest, at $332.6 per gallon.
The nationwide average is nearly 33 cents per gallon higher than it was at this time last year, and a dollar higher than it was two years ago.
And it jumped by more than a dime in the past week. For more, plus a regional look, see the facts.
Today’s report from the Energy Information Admnistration of the U.S. Department of Energy: A 50 percent jump in two years.
