“STAGECOACH” ****

John Ford’s landmark 1939 western is based on a deceptively simple situation: a stagecoach journey shared by a famous gunslinger, a pregnant woman, a crooked bank manager and an alcoholic doctor. Superb performances by John Wayne, Claire Trevor and Thomas Mitchell — who won the Oscar for best supporting actor — make for an authentic classic that has been copied but never equaled.
No MPAA rating.
“CROCODILE DUNDEE II” **
