A Streamwood woman charged with stabbing her 6-year-old son last week is being held in a mental health facility, police said Monday.

Alicja G. Makowska, 42, of the 2000 block of Quaker Hollow Lane, was charged Friday with attempted murder and has been undergoing treatment at an unidentified facility since she threatened to hurt herself shortly after the boy’s injuries were discovered, Streamwood Police Cmdr. Randy Hart said Monday.

“He had a number of stab wounds and slash marks on his body from a kitchen knife,” Hart said of the boy, who was injured Thursday at the family’s home.

The boy was treated and released Friday from St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, he said.

The father found his injured son about 5:30 p.m. after returning from work and took him to the hospital. Makowska stabbed the boy around noon, Hart said. Makowska gave no explanation for the boy’s injuries and was taken to a hospital herself after police arrived, Hart said.
