*The head of Dr. Martens shoes apologized Thursday for ads featuring Kurt Cobain and other dead rockers. “We are really, really, really sorry,” Dr. Martens CEO David Suddens tells People.com. “We do think that it is offensive. We made a mistake.” On Wednesday, Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, lashed out at the company. The ad shows Cobain wearing Doc Martens, draped in an angelic robe and sitting on a cloud. Sid Vicious, Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone also appear in the ads.

*Every year at Cannes, an international phalanx of industry players screens hundreds of movies out of competition as part of the Marche, the vast bazaar of buying and selling adjoining the film festival. Last year, “The Lives of Others” played in the market, attracted some attention and, a few months later, poof: An Academy Award for best foreign language film. Music Box Films, the fledgling distribution arm of Chicago’s Music Box Theatre, is hoping its North American distribution of “Tuya’s Marriage” brings some of the same magic. It is the first of five planned acquisitions this year, Music Box Films head William Schopf said. He sealed the deal on “Tuya’s Marriage” this week in Cannes, France.
