Concert Dance Inc. will launch the 2007 Ruth Page Dance Festival with performances Wednesday and Thursday at Bennett-Gordon Hall at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park.
The program will include Venetia Stifler’s “Meetings Along the Edge,” a work that unites the music of Ravi Shankar and Phillip Glass. Also on tap is Stifler’s “Elegy, A Poem of Mourning,” for solo dancer and Spanish guitar accompaniment.
There will also be excerpts from Stifler’s “With Timbrel and Dance,” a gospel piece set to music by Carmon DeLeone, and “Ruth Page’s Billy Sunday,” a re-envisioned look at Page’s 1946 ballet about the White Sox pitcher who became a celebrity evangelist in the 1920s. Stifler is combining parts of Page’s “Billy Sunday” work with her own choreography. The full production, premiering July 29 at Ravinia, features the original sets and costumes from the famed Page classic.
Concert Dance Inc. is the resident company of the Ruth Page Foundation. For tickets, call: 847-266-5100.
