Whether they travel across the U.S. or across the world, more and more celebrities are hopping on the adoption bandwagon, with “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria and actress Halle Berry being the latest celebs to express interest in adopting.
Berry, who has an adopted daughter, India, from her marriage to singer Eric Benet, told Extra TV earlier this month that she “probably will adopt” even if she gets pregnant at some point. And Longoria, who’s getting ready to walk down the aisle with Spurs point guard Tony Parker, told Latina magazine that she and Parker also may adopt. Here’s a look other stars who’ve recently adopted and their new additions.
Sheryl Crow
May 2007: son Watt Steven
The singer-guitarist announced May 11 that she adopted a baby boy, born two weeks earlier. Crow, who’s not married, gave no other details about her first child, saying only that she named him after her dad and her brother.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
March 2007: son Pax Thien
Three-year-old Pax Thien, adopted from Vietnam, is the latest to join the Bradgelina brood, which includes the couple’s 5-year-old son, Maddox, whom Jolie adopted from Cambodia; 2-year-old daughter Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia; and Brad and Angie’s biological daughter Shiloh, who turns 1 on Sunday.
Ewan McGregor
April 2006: daughter, name unknown
The Scottish actor and his wife announced in April they had adopted a 4-year-old girl from Mongolia, where McGregor had traveled during his 20,000-mile motorcycle journey for the Bravo TV series “Long Way Round.” They gave no other details.
Meg Ryan
January 2006: daughter Daisy True
The actress told People magazine in April that 2-year-old Daisy, whom Ryan adopted from China, is “the daughter I should have.” Ryan also has a son, Jack Henry, 15, with ex-husband, Dennis Quaid.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie
Adoption pending: son David
The material mom and her director husband are still in the process of adopting 1-year-old David, whom they found in a Malawian orphanage last year. Critics said the couple used their celebrity status to circumvent Malawian adoption laws, which they deny.
