THREE UP
Ryan Howard made his return from the disabled list official with a pair of two-run homers in the Phillies’ 13-6 win over the Braves. “Right now,” he declared, “I’m 100 percent.” Howard, who came off the DL Friday, had three hits to lift his average to .220.
Adam Dunn went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, hitting two homers in a 14-10 loss to the Pirates. “We’re swinging the bats,” Reds manager Jerry Narron said. “We did a great job offensively. We just need to get good pitching at the start of the game.”
Jake Peavy held the Brewers to two hits in seven scoreless innings and had an RBI double in a two-run sixth to lead the Padres to a 3-0 win. “I did take a nice deep breath after I got lucky and ran into that ball, and we scored a few extra runs,” Peavy said.
THREE DOWN
Marlins starter Scott Olsen gave up four runs to the Mets in the fourth inning on a walk, four hits, a double steal and a wild pitch in a 6-4 loss. “It’s just disheartening to lose to the Mets,” Olsen said. “You don’t want to lose in the division.”
Blue Jays starter A.J. Burnett held the Twins to three hits in eight innings only to be undone by his own error. With the bases loaded in the third, Burnett barehanded Justin Morneau’s high chopper only to make a wild throw to first, allowing two runs to score.
Yankees reliever Scott Proctor gave up a double and three walks in the seventh as the Angels rallied for three runs to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. “Anytime you have the lead like that, that’s what we’re there for,” Proctor said. “All of them are frustrating.”
