No joke: The hype surrounding the Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” is kicking up a notch.
What looks to be an early peek at Heath Ledger’s new and “improved” take on the Joker has been released. The image surfaced on the Web at ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com. That site has since been updated, but the image appeared again Sunday on the fan site heathledger.net.
Aside from the exaggerated lips, all hints of Jack Nicholson’s slapstick Joker in the original “Batman” seem to have vanished.
RedEye wonders how many times “The Dark Knight” brain trust watched “The Crow” before settling for this gothic take on the Joker.
We’ll have to wait for a date closer to “Dark Knight’s” July 2008 premiere to see if the look sticks.
