THREE UP

Gary Sheffield clubbed two home runs and drove in five as the Tigers ended a four-game skid with a 14-2 rout of the Devil Rays. Sheffield hit a two-run shot in the first inning and then capped a five-run sixth with a three-run blast. He has 10 of his 12 homers in May.

It’s not just about Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz in Boston. Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis extended his hitting streak to 21 games in a 4-2 win over the Indians in a battle of division leaders. Youkilis had an RBI double in the first and a solo homer in the sixth.

The Blue Jays’ Aaron Hill stole home in a 3-2 win over the Yankees. With left-hander Andy Pettitte on the mound in the seventh inning, Hill took a walking lead off third and broke for the plate. Catcher Jorge Posada stepped out and warned Pettitte, whose throw was late.

THREE DOWN

One start after a brushback war with the Marlins’ Dontrelle Willis, the Phillies’ Jon Lieber ran into some more trouble — namely the Diamondbacks’ offense. Arizona put up five runs in the second off Lieber, who gave up 13 hits over 6 2/3 innings in an 11-5 loss.

Giants closer Armando Benitez came unglued with two outs in the bottom of the 12th, allowing the Mets to rally for a 5-4 win. Benitez balked home the tying run (Jose Reyes) from third. Carlos Delgado then hit his second homer of the night over the wall in right-center.

For the first time in his major-league career, Shawn Green will spend time on the disabled list. The veteran Mets outfielder went on the DL because of a broken right foot. Green fouled a ball off his foot on Friday against the Marlins.
