A new Chicago production of “Altar Boyz” is coming to the Drury Lane Theatre at Water Tower Place in the fall, and reportedly will hold local auditions soon. The off-Broadway spoof of Christian boy bands played briefly in the Loop last fall as part of a national tour. … Vocalist Ron Hawking has booked the Mercury Theatre for a reprise engagement of his big-band tribute to Frank Sinatra. “His Way” begins performances again on June 21. … The Chicago-based production company Elephant Eye Theatrical plans to put “The Addams Family” on Broadway during the 2009-10 season. The musical will be based on the cartoons of the late Charles Addams; Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the writers of “Jersey Boys,” are the librettists and Andrew Lippa (“The Wild Party”) is the composer. Direction and design is by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, the founders of the Improbable Theater; Stuart Oken is producer. And consider Chicago a likely candidate for out-of-town tryouts.
