Pass that golden popcorn.
The 2007 MTV Movie Awards — hosted this year by comedian Sarah Silverman — is set to air live at 7 p.m. Sunday from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.
The big question: Will Silverman give the MTV Movie Awards what she’s brought to the Independent Spirit Awards?
“I think they assume that I know the stuff that flew on IFC doesn’t go on MTV,” says Silverman, who managed to make cheese an object of controversy in her last Independent Spirit Awards remarks. “I’ve been around a long time, but I’m still shocked at the things you can and cannot say. “
Silverman will have lots of company onstage. Musically, Rihanna is slated to team with Jay-Z, and British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse also is set to perform. Scheduled presenters include John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Amanda Bynes, Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Alba and her “Fantastic Four” screen mates, and “Knocked Up” co-stars Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen.
With 10 categories, the night should be a slew of fight sequences, steamy kisses and comedic moments. And funnyman Mike Myers is set to take home the MTV Generation Award-an honor bestowed to only two other performers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
So get ready for the drama (Will Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel duke it out over Justin Timberlake?), the suspense (Will “Pirates” sweep the ceremony?) and the laughs (Will Silverman break an FCC obscenity regulation?).
We hope so. [ REDEYE’S STACEY SKOTZKO CONTRIBUTED. ]
