Season premiere

Hex

BBC America

Some say this is the British “Charmed” or “Buffy,” but I doubt the “Charmed” ones would ever cast a spell without make-up, let alone allow themselves to be made up like a drugged out psycho. That’s where we find Laura Pyper, who as our heroine Ella is being drugged by an evil fairy posing as a psych ward nurse. It’s up to lesbian ghost Thelma (Jemima Rooper, right) to save Ella, so Ella can save the world from a fallen angel. With its grisly deaths, language and dark humor, “Hex” goes waaay beyond “Buffy.”

Army Wives

Lifetime

Kim Delaney (right) and Catherine Bell lead a top-notch cast in this well-acted look at life on an active Army post among the spouses of U.S. soldiers fighting overseas. Five of these spouses — four women and a man — become unlikely friends despite varied backgrounds. They aren’t desperate housewives in THAT way, but they do have their secrets.

Shot in the Dark

HBO

The season finale of “Entourage” (9 p.m.) is followed by star Adrian Grenier’s doc about searching for his biological father. It feels, well, kind of scripted.
