THREE UP…

Matt Morris allowed only a single over six innings and had a career-best three hits to lead the Giants to a 13-0 win over the Phillies. Morris, a career .161 hitter, finished 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice. He struck out three and lowered his ERA to 2.66.

Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb dominated a makeshift New York lineup, limiting the Mets to four hits and pitching the D’backs to a 5-1 win. Webb had a career ERA of 0.43 in three previous starts at Shea Stadium. Webb struck out eight and walked one.

Ryan Braun, playing his eighth game in the majors, homered, doubled and singled to lead the Brewers to an 8-5 victory over the Marlins. Braun’s two-run homer in the fifth traveled 427 feet and landed just above the ivy that grows on the wall in center field.

THREE DOWN …

Tigers closer Todd Jones blew his second straight save as the reeling Tigers lost for the seventh time in eight games and fell 4 1/2 games behind first-place Cleveland in the AL Central. Jones gave up three-run homer to Victor Martinez to start the Tigers’ downfall.

The Devil Rays’ Scott Kazmir allowed eight hits in seven innings in 4-1 loss to the Royals. Kazmir, who struck out seven, has not won at home since pitching a two-hit shutout against Boston last July 3. “We really just didn’t come out to play,” Kazmir said.

Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield walked six Yankees, including three straight in the second inning in a 9-5 loss. He lasted 3 2/3 innings in an outing that also included a hit batter, a wild pitch and two passed balls. His ERA ballooned from 3.36 to 4.24.
