Radio play would be seem to be ideal for a band with an upcoming album. But Jack White of White Stripes clearly didn’t think so.

White was livid when he heard that Chicago’s Q101 radio station had played his band’s entire unreleased album, “Icky Thump,” on the air Wednesday, mtv.com reported. Its official release isn’t until June 19.

Q101’s music director, Spike, told RedEye that White, who was on a tour in Spain when he heard the news, called DJ Electra to express his anger, implying the station and DJs like Electra were causing the music industry to struggle.

Spike denied to MTV that the station had “leaked” the album. “I was sent a link to a file and, when we found it online — like we always do — we played it,” he told MTV.

On her blog, meanwhile, Electra said the exchange with White was rough. “I felt I was going to throw up,” she wrote. “He hung up, very, very, angry, and I thought I was going to cry.”
