Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

LOOK AT THE LARGE WORDS on these pages and tell me you don’t get a little nervous. For most people, “summer school” means “See you in September.” Traditionally, summer school has been for those in need of doing extra work in order to catch up to their classmates. No longer, the editors of this magazine tell me, and they and many writers make their case, rather persuasively, on the following pages. There you will be directed to places where you can learn to properly grill a steak or salmon, dance, take better photographs, operate a Segway or explore the World’s Fair of 1893. The Tribune’s critics chime in with their picks for the summer’s top shows. It’s a package designed to lead you to something more lasting than a good tan. And do not let the photo on these pages fool you. It may appear as if those people spread across the sand at Oak Street Beach are merely watching the antics and acrobatics of last August’s Air & Water Show. But who’s to say that each one of them isn’t holding a book on aerodynamics?
