The Tigers’ Jeremy Bonderman moved to 5-0 in a 9-2 win over the Indians, yielding a two-run homer to Victor Martinez in the first before shutting down an offense that had averaged 6.9 runs in its previous 11 games. His ERA in the first inning: 14.40; after that: 1.29.

Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run walk-off homer off Chris Ray, giving the Angels a 4-3 victory over the Orioles after being held to one hit through seven innings by Jeremy Guthrie. The drive to left-center was Guerrero’s 350th career homer.

Chad Gaudin outdueled Johan Santana despite yielding his first homer in 67 innings (to Jason Kubel) in the A’s 4-2 win over the Twins. The A’s have won his last six starts. He battled through five innings, yielding two runs on eight hits with five walks.

Astros closer Dan Wheeler yielded a pair of long balls in the 10th inning of an 8-6 loss to the Cardinals. So Taguchi and Albert Pujols did the damage after Wheeler had pitched a perfect ninth and got the first out in the 10th. The Astros have lost 14 of 17.

Royals starter Scott Elarton lost for the sixth time in six career starts against the Devil Rays, giving up four runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 5-1 loss. He has allowed 27 earned runs and 41 hits in 28 1/3 innings (8.58 ERA) in his six outings against Tampa Bay.

Andre Ethier’s two-run homer in the eighth off Salomon Torres finished off the Dodgers’ five-run comeback in a 5-4 win over the Pirates. Torres, who lost his closer’s job after blowing a 2-0 lead in the ninth Thursday, yielded four hits and two runs in one-third of an inning.
