1. ‘America’s Got Talent’
8 p.m., WMAQ-Ch. 5
It’s no “American Idol,” but this competition series garnered a decent audience during its first season. It’s back for more with a new host, Jerry Springer (above), replacing Regis Philbin and a new judge, Sharon Osbourne, replacing Brandy. Performers of all stripes — singers, dancers, comedians, acrobats and more — and ages compete for a $1 million prize. And, as with “Idol,” viewers get to vote.
2. ‘The 2007 ALMA Awards’
8 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7
ALMA stands for American Latino Media Arts, but “alma” is also the Spanish word for “soul.” This awards show reminds all of us, Latino and non-Latino alike, of the huge role that folks with their roots in Spanish-speaking culture play in our entertainment media. Eva Longoria (above) returns as host, and Prince is among the stars scheduled to perform with a surprise guest.
3. ‘Kathy Griffin: Everybody Can …’
8 p.m., Bravo
Newly divorced and preparing to play Carnegie Hall, Kathy Griffin (above) is back with a new season of her reality series, “My Life on the D-List.” And she’s her own opening act! This stand-up special, which precedes the season premiere of “D-List,” finds Griffin at the Wells Fargo Center for the Performing Arts in Santa Rosa, Calif. Her targets include snooty nightclubs and outrageous celebrity behavior. Looking at you, Paris Hilton.
4. ‘Animal Battlegrounds’
8:30 p.m., Animal Planet
Dinnertime! This new series is more than just a showcase for showdowns between predators and prey. It looks at the role of the setting in those showdowns, which can cast the “deciding vote” in whether a critter becomes another animal’s dinner or lives to fight another day. The premiere episode visits with grizzlies hunting salmon in Alaska, trout pursuing mayflies in Britain and piranhas chowing down in Venezuela.
5. ‘The Shield’
9 p.m., FX
After this, you can catch your breath. In the season finale, Vic (Michael Chiklis) allies with Aceveda (Benito Martinez) against a common enemy. Billings (David Marciano) has big news for his colleagues. A botched arrest endangers Hiatt’s (Alex O’Loughlin) career, and Shane’s (Walton Goggins) loyalty is tested by his association with the Armenian mob.
