Brawn kicks beauty in the solar plexus in Oxygen’s new reality series “Fight Girls.”
The show debuts at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and features 10 female fighters who want to compete in the World Muay Thai Championship in Thailand.
The group includes Felice, the aesthetician; Gina, the salsa dancer; Kerry, the quitter; Jeanine, the rookie; Jennifer, the alley cat; Lisa, the sorority girl; Michelle, the waitress; Miriam, the perfectionist; Ardra, the free spirit; and Dawn, the doctor’s daughter.
The women, who live together in a palatial home in Las Vegas, will be sharing bathrooms one minute and punching one another in the face the next. Only five women will go to Thailand, earning their places by beating the others. Two women will fight each week, with the loser walking away.
To prepare them for weekly battles, the fighters rely on the training and techniques of Master Toddy, a Thai native and champion in Muay Thai boxing, who has choreographed fight scenes in several movies, including “Austin Powers.” Toddy will teach the fighters how to effectively use their fists, feet, elbows and knees.
The fighters also get assistance from mentors Gina Carano, a World Muay Thai champion, and Lisa “Black Widow” King, who has worked with Toddy for more than a decade. You’ll find outtakes, confessionals and other tidbits at oxygen.com/fightgirls.
