The Internet was buzzing Tuesday with reports that Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz got into it with an audience member after a small gig at Schubas early Tuesday.
An unnamed audience member told mtv.com that heckling from the audience at the North Side rock club turned into a full-blown physical confrontation and police were called.
Wentz told MTV News in an e-mail that he’d reacted in self-defense. “On the way out the door I had to pass directly next to the guy, and I knew it, so I kept my head down and walked out. As I did, the guy reached out and grabbed me,” Wentz told MTV. “As he grabbed me, I punched him.”
Chicago Police Department spokesman David Banks said it was a minor incident and that no arrests were made.
A Schubas official, who declined to be identified, wouldn’t comment to RedEye on the details of the incident, but said the MTV report “seems pretty right on from all the people we talked to.”
