A plan to build 125 town homes and an office-retail building on a golf driving range in the southern part of Mundelein is too dense, developers were told this week by village officials.

The project on U.S. Highway 45, called Sutton Place and unveiled Monday at a Village Board meeting, would use the foundation of a former furniture store for a two-story office-retail building, said David Shaw, a Chicago attorney representing a group called Mundelein One LLC.

Three-story rowhouses and a U-shaped building with town homes and condos would be built on the north side of the property, said Terry Smith of BSB Design..

Indian Creek flows along the northwest corner of the property. Trustees Ed Sullivan, James Nutschnig and Terri Voss all said the plan was too dense. “I hear your message,” Shaw said. “We’ll go back and revisit the plan.”
