GameTap has gone global with its recent announcement that free games will be available to broadband Internet users.

A division of the Turner Broadcasting System, GameTap provides subscribers access to about 900 games for $6.95 a month. About 30 titles, including last year’s console hit Tomb Raider: Legend, will be free on an ad-supported portion of the site. It’s a move that will help the Atlanta-based company reach a global audience; gamers outside the U.S. and Canada are not eligible to sign up for a GameTap subscription.

“We’ve opened the door even wider — so that practically anyone with a broadband connection can give GameTap a spin,” said Stuart Snyder, Turner’s executive vice president and chief operating officer of Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. “We want people to sample not just the massive library of GameTap titles, but the adrenaline rush that attracted over 20 million game plays last year.”
