Elroy Henry Riechers, 82, passed away Saturday, June 16 at his residence in Glenview. He was the beloved husband of Rose, nee Pellegrino; proud father of Rick (Susan) and Cheryl (Ralph) Temple, adoring grandfather of Joel, Andrea, Jayna, Rick and Ralph (Caroline); step-grandfather of Scott and Erin Kennedy; brother of Lou (Gene) Vollrath and Marjorie (August) Rump; preceded in death by parents Conrad and Maxine, nee Ohlendorf, Riechers and his brothers Roger and Delmar. Mr. Riechers will be fondly remembered for his unending devotion to family, colorful opinions and great big heart. Elroy met Rose, the 60 year love of his life, at the Princess Caf in Beecher, where she worked for her parents, Joseph and Angeline Pellegrino and also lived in Chicago’s Little Flower Parish and Saint Joseph’s Parish in Homewood. He was a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran who served in Panama, an ardent union leader at the Wyman Gordon Plant in Harvey and a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home,18022 Dixie Highway. Funeral Thursday, 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home to Saint Joseph Church. Mass 11 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Juvenile Diabetes Association appreciated. For funeral information call 708-798-0331.
