“We’re not against rap. We’re not against hip-hop,” says Rev. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina on the South Side.

But his church has started a billboard campaign in Chicago against negative music, specifically naming several rappers next to the words “Stop listening to trash!”

Fat Joe, Lil Wayne, Nelly, 50 Cent and G-Unit, Twista, Snoop Dogg and Ludacris and “all negative rappers” are called out on the billboards, which are up on the South and West Sides.

Pfleger told RedEye that so far he’s heard a positive response to the billboards. “The degrading and the demeaning of women is our main issue,” he said.

The billboards aren’t sitting well with Chicago artist Twista’s camp. “It’s unfair judgment,” Twista’s manager Rawle Stewart told RedEye. “We give the people what they want. We give good music.”
