*West Word, the Niles West High School student newspaper, received a first-place award from the American Scholastic Press Association, for the seventh consecutive year. Editors-in-chief were graduating seniors Sarah Duchaj and Seth Motel. Managing editor was graduating senior Jared Delmar.
*The Physical Welfare Department at Niles North High School received a 2007 Physh Ed Grant to incorporate fishing and boating into its physical-education curriculum. The grant is administered by the Future Fisherman Foundation and its partners, the American Sportfishing Association, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
WEST NORTHFIELD, DISTRICT 31
*Field Middle School’s annual 5K Charity Walk and Run recently raised more than $5,400 for Breast Cancer Research and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. More than 100 students, along with teachers and parent volunteers, took part in the event.
*The Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Field School Learning Center, 2055 Landwehr Rd., Northbrook.
