Tag. Pinners. Red Rover. Kick the Can. Bring back memories? Before the days of PlayStations and play dates, kids simply went outside and … played.
Still seems like a good idea to us. So we were happy to see the City of Chicago getting into the action with its summer tourism campaign called “Art of Play.”
Need another reason for a summer of good old-fashioned, unstructured play? Flip through “The Dangerous Book for Boys,” by Conn and Hal Iggulden, who have this to say about it: “In this age of video games and cell phones, there must still be a place for knots, tree houses, and stories of incredible courage. The one thing that we always say about childhood is that we seemed to have more time back then.”
So, toss away your schedule, tell Mom (or the boss) that you’ll be back by dinner and get out and play!
