Charles E. Ward, age 77, 33-year resident of Klinger Lake, formerly of South Holland, went to be with his wife of 50 years on Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Veteran of U.S. Army, served during the Korean Conflict, born in Chicago, IL on April 2, 1929 to Damien J. and Irene Ward. Beloved husband of Carolyn B., nee Beard. Owner and Operator of the Benton Corporation in Joliet, IL for 35 years. Received awards for his Innovations in Plastic recycling Industry. Four year All American at Mt. Carmel H.S., Loras College and then was a tackle for the Chicago Bears in the 1950 and 51 seasons. Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Klinger Lake Association, Klinger Lake Yacht Club, Knights of Columbus, Charter Member of the Lincolnshire Country Club and Beacon Club of Kalamazoo, MI. Survivors include daughter Suzi (Tom) Thome of Middlebury, IN; son Charles Ward of Paris, France; two grandchildren Samantha and Summer Thome of Middlebury; sister Evelyn Murphy of Chicago, IL; brother Damien J. (Stella) Ward of Park Forest, IL; several nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his wife, parents, sister Frances McCormick. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, White Pigeon, MI. Rev. John Grothwel officiating. Burial St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, White Pigeon. Scripture service 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home. Visitation Saturday 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farrand Funeral Home, 300 N. Kalamazoo St., White Pigeon, MI 49099.
