Suspect charged in ATM hold-up
Bond was set at $350,000 Friday for a suspect arrested in a violent armed robbery on the North Side. He was tracked down from a description from his alleged victim, who said the attacker resembled Samuel L. Jackson. Richard B. Mason, 49, was charged with armed robbery for the early Thursday morning attack in which Mason allegedly slashed the victim with a razor, said Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.
Bronzeville man found stabbed to death
A Chicago man was found fatally stabbed Thursday night inside his Bronzeville apartment, police said Friday morning. Officers were called at about 7:45 p.m. to conduct a well-being check in the 4100 block of South Michigan Avenue in Bronzeville, police said. Bernie Graves, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, with apparent stab wounds in the neck and body, police said.
CTA train strikes vehicle
A CTA Pink Line train struck a car in Cicero on Thursday night after the motorist apparently tried to drive around downed crossing gates. No one aboard the train was injured, and the driver of the car fled on foot after the crash, police said. The accident occurred about 1 a.m. at the intersection of 47th Court and Cermak Road, said CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said.
Chicago to head off West Nile
City officials announced plans Friday to combat West Nile virus in Chicago this year through an aggressive strategy of monitoring mosquito traps and spraying pesticides where the disease appears. The virus has not yet made its debut in the city this year, but officials said it is only a matter of time. “We know we’re in for a fight,” Chicago Health Commissioner Terry Mason said at a news conference.
