Making his season debut after a blood clot was removed from his pitching shoulder, left-hander Kenny Rogers allowed only two hits in six innings to lead the Tigers past the Braves 5-0. He threw 75 pitches (47 for strikes), struck out five and didn’t walk anyone.

Brewers rookie third baseman Ryan Braun took everything the Royals had to offer in an 11-6 victory. Braun went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Braun even took a free base after a walk in the sixth. With nobody paying attention, Braun sprinted to second uncontested.

Tom Glavine inched closer to the 300-win mark as he scattered six hits over eight innings to earn his 296th career victory as the Mets routed the Athletics 9-1. He helped himself with two hits and two RBIs. It was his first win in over a month (May 19 against the Yankees).

THREE DOWN

The Rockies cooled off when the Blue Jays rallied for three runs in the 10th for a 9-8 win. With the bases loaded, John McDonald singled off Brian Fuentes, scoring two. Catcher Chris Iannetta then tried to nab Curtis Thigpen at third but threw the ball away, letting Thigpen score.

Poor Anthony Reyes. The Cardinals pitcher, who won Game 1 of the 2006 World Series against the Tigers, still hasn’t won since that October night. Reyes dropped to 0-9 after allowing five runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in the Cardinals’ 6-0 loss to the Phillies.

The Braves were shut out for the third consecutive game in a 5-0 loss to the Tigers. They have managed just 12 hits in the last three games. Outfielder Andruw Jones has gone hitless in 21 straight at-bats, dropping his average to .199.
