Joan Bell, nee Rasmussen, passed away June 4, 2007 in Castroville, CA, at her home where she resided for the last 12 years. Joan was born July 19, 1926 in Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of Steinmetz H.S. and was all park district in softball. In 1946, she became the first female lifeguard on Lake Michigan, working at North Ave. Beach, while being a model at Bramson’s Department Store. On Nov. 12, 1949, she was wed at St. Pascal’s church to John Bell, their marriage lasted over 51 years. Joan enjoyed watching the Cubs, loving her Great Danes, gardening and her true love in life was her family. Joan will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. We can only begin to understand the impact you had on our lives, and we will always carry your love in our hearts and your spirit in our souls. Rest in Peace. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Hank and Gertruide Rasmussen; her brothers: Bill, Don, Bob and Tom; sister, Jean; her beloved husband, John; sons, Jere and Jeff;daughter, Jayne. Joan was survived by her sons John (Cristine) of Salinas, CA, Jim (Aidee) of Schaumburg, IL.; and devoted daughter, Jean of Castroville, CA; as well as her grandchildren: Jimmy (Jeanine), Shanna (Craig), and Jay, and also Boris, Alex and Max.
