Rita O’Connor Evoy was born in Chicago on Dec. 25, 1923, daughter of Richard and Mae Hanrahan O’Connor. She died in San Diego on Dec. 28, 2006. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Evoy; and mother of Kathleen (Joseph) Roach, Daniel Ryan, Sharon (Jerry Sebastyen), the late Richard (Sandra), Dr. Patrick (Leslie), Moira (Patrick) Riley, Eileen (Kenneth) Davidson and Joanne Evoy. Rita was the loving grandmother of Colleen Sterling, Bridget White and Dr. Patrick Roach, Colin Sebstyen, Matthew and Timothy Evoy, Jeremy Bailey, Erin, Richy and Anna Evoy, Katie, Sean and Seamus Riley, Mary Alheim, Michael, Maggie and James Davidson, Stevie and Barbara Evoy Kozlowski and the late Eric Davidson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Aidan Evoy and Elia Roach. Rita was the beloved sister of Mary Byrne, Therese (the late Jack) Haberstroh, Betty (the late Raymond) Callahan, the late Edward (the late Grace) and the late Richard (Shirley) O’Connor. With eight children at home, Rita started college, obtaining her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Chicago Teachers College. She taught and was a school psychologist in the Chicago Public Schools for more than 20 years. She loved her family and loved traveling. She was very active in her church and in many senior activities in San Diego including the local chapter of the Chicago Retired Teachers Association. Family and friends will gather at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, 8300 S. Kostner Ave., on Monday, June 25 for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
