The National Security Archive, an independent non-governmental research institute and library at George Washington University, posted the full “family jewels” report Tuesday on its Web site ( www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/) after its release by the Central Intelligence Agency. The Archive said CIA officers delivered the report “at approximately 11:30 this morning — 15 years after the Archive filed a Freedom of Information request for the documents.”
The CIA’s current director, Gen. Michael Hayden, said the release of the report was part of the agency’s “social contract with the American people,” which included an obligation to “share with the public the information we can.”
