Oh, no. Just what we need.

More of these guys.

By these guys, I’m talking about a group of people who are rumored to have the inside track on buying the Cubs.

This may come as a shock to some, but their names aren’t Veeck, Murray, Cuban, Jordan, Winfrey or even Stone.

No way. These are Bud Selig guys.

We’re talking chairman Andrew McKenna of McDonald’s and John Canning Jr. of Madison Dearborn. The company, not the intersection.

My point is, I think we’ve seen this in Chicago about 150 times before. Let me put it this way: They’re just like the same people who run the Cubs now, but they don’t actually work in Tribune Tower.

McKenna, by the way, was chairman of the Cubs from 1982 to 1984. You know, the glory years.

So forget about Bill Murray being put in charge of fun. Forget about Mark Cuban creating an atmosphere where players will kill themselves to win. Forget about Mike Veeck making you remember what it is you loved about baseball.

Nope. Can’t wait until next year. It’s going to look just like this year.

Speaking of this year, I’m seeing signs of false optimism. Big deal. You swept the White Sox and Rockies. You’re not even at .500 yet, so let’s hold off on playoff tickets for now.

Also, I hear the Cubs want the fan who charged Bobby Howry to be charged as a felon. I am not condoning violence. I prefer suffering quietly. But I think Bobby Howry makes a mint being a mediocre pitcher. I think that’s a felony.

Also, Jacque Jones may need to go to jail for stealing as well. Please trade him now.

On the other hand, there’s Mark Buehrle. Lots of rumors on who wants him and for how much.

I say he stays. You just don’t let quality guys who want to pitch here, who won a World Series, who have thrown a no-no, get away. Even if you get a boatload in return, it sends the wrong message.

I’m just saying, it reminds me of Greg Maddux. Different team, sure. Same city, though, and the scars remain.

By the way, no false optimism here, either please. A thumping of the Devil Rays doesn’t count as momentum. A week ago, they couldn’t beat the Cubs. Pathetic.

You know it’s sad when Scott Podsednik says you’re hurting, and that guy can barely walk.
