Eugene A. Valko, passed away June 27 in Elgin. He was born into a family of nine in Ironwood, MI on June 22, 1927. In his youth Eugene was a sensational athlete. On one occasion in college he was a one man team who, at one meet, competed against five full size teams and he beat two of them himself. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. Eugene and his late wife, Margie, had three children, Robert, James and Susan, who survive him and remember him as a wonderful and sensitive father. He was a musician and loved to play the piano. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30 at Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee (corner of S. Third and Oregon), from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. 847-836-8770 .
