Dear Tom,

My wife and I lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Nevada in 1996. My question is this: What is the name of that red building on Michigan Avenue, which is prominent during your WGN weather segments?

Siad and MaryAnn Torkelson, Mesquite, Nev.

Dear Siad and MaryAnn,

We receive occasional questions about that imposing structure. Because of its massive height and bright red color, the CNA Plaza Building is one of the most prominent buildings on Chicago’s magnificent skyline.

It’s not on Michigan Avenue, however. Rising to 601 feet and 44 stories, the CNA Plaza Building was completed in 1972, and it is located at 325 South Wabash Ave.

And yes, that is the structure’s actual color. It is bright red, and red figures in many interior fixtures of the building as well.
