A West Side mother charged in the death of her 2-year-old son realized he had consumed her prescription methadone, but she didn’t call for help out of fear of getting into trouble, prosecutors said Friday.

Bail for Lakesha Williams was set at $300,000 by Circuit Judge Laura Sullivan. Williams, 35, is charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of endangering a child. Her son, Kejuan Davis, died Wednesday afternoon at Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Ex-con admits to killing 2

An ex-convict with a history of violence toward women admitted Friday to murdering two of his former lovers from DuPage County, one who was ambushed outside a Wheaton McDonald’s where she worked in 2001. Under a plea deal, DuPage State’s Atty. Joe Birkett offered to take the death penalty request off the table for Michael Alfonso, 38, who confessed during 40 minutes of sworn testimony. Alfonso calmly answered Birkett’s questions Friday, admitting he committed the two murders after the women jilted him.
