Inspectors with Mayor Daley’s Dumpster Task Force shut down the North Side Vietnamese restaurant Tuesday after allegedly finding live roaches, rat droppings and grease-encrusted equipment. The inspectors noted more than 50 live roaches in the food preparation area alone.

“We were a little shocked they had this many examples of pestilence,” said Matt Smith, spokesman for the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

The task force also said it noticed a handful of flying insects, more than 50 rat droppings on the floor and grease on nearly every kitchen surface.

Calls to Hai Yen for comment went unanswered Tuesday evening.
