Baseball’s heart
William Hageman’s article [“Field of Daydreams,” July 8] was so excellent. It said so many things that I feel about baseball and about the parks like Wrigley and Miller Park. I grew up in the late ’40s and early ’50s, with my dad listening to baseball on this huge portable radio that he carried everywhere: garden, beach, you name it.
My dad and brother would talk baseball and recall games and statistics in these long conversations. I will never forget when he took me to see Warren Spahn pitch.
I thank my dad for many things but one thing for sure is this love of baseball and so much of what surrounds it. He would have loved the article.
When he was near his end, we would sit at the nursing home and listen to the ballgames. We didn’t have to hunt for things to talk about, it was so natural.
