Tom Glavine, 41, pitched six innings to earn career win No. 299 in the Mets’ 6-3 victory over the Pirates. Glavine (9-6), who worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first, is expected to go for career win No. 300 Tuesday night in Milwaukee.

Aaron Cook needed just 74 pitches en route to his second complete game of season, a 10-2 victory over the Padres. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitcher throw seven frames of single-digit pitches,” Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. “He was filthy.”

The Indians’ Fausto Carmona pitched eight shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox, improving to 5-0 in July and running his scoreless innings streak to 18. Carmona (13-4), who was 1-10 last season, had a no-hitter for 5 1/3 innings.

Joe Blanton gave up five runs, 11 hits in six innings of A’s 7-6 loss to Angels, becoming the first A’s pitcher to allow at least 10 hits in four consecutive starts since Rick Langford in 1982. Blanton has a 6.75 ERA during that stretch. He led the AL in June with 1.58 mark.

The skidding Pirates dropped their sixth straight road game in their 6-3 loss to the Mets. They also may have lost left-hander Tom Gorzelanny for a while. He left in the third with shoulder stiffness. Manager Jim Tracy was ejected shortly afterward arguing a call.

Slumping Ken Griffey Jr. went 0-for-5, failing to get the ball out of the infield, and is in a 2-for-26 slide. The Reds also lost catcher David Ross (dislocated small right finger) and shortstop Pedro Lopez (hit in face by pitch) in their 7-3 win over the Brewers.
