For a while, gold fell out of favor with fashionistas. Now it’s back in a big way. The difference between old gold and the 2007 pieces? The new gold comes in whimsical designs, with animal charms or as jumbled chains. There also are plenty of dainty and delicate gold pieces that are perfect for going out. The best part? Nothing else but gold will show off your end-of-summer tan quite so well. Here, some great gold (or good imitation) pieces for $100 or less.

Juicy Couture padlock and key necklace; $88 at Nordstrom.

Kenneth Jay Lane gold swirl ring; $75 at Intermix.

K. Amato lizard necklace; $55 at Active Endeavors.

Safari post earrings; $12 at Urban Outfitters.

Library charm bracelet; $85 at J Crew.

Thick chain with single pearl bracelet; $45 at Betsey Johnson, 2120 N. Halsted.

Textured chain bracelet; $8.80 at Forever 21.

Giles and Brother safety pin studs; $80 at Barneys Co-op.

Leaf pendant necklace; $8.50 at Claire’s Accessories.
