SEVERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WILL AFFECT TRAVEL ON THE CTA RED, BLUE AND BROWN LINES.

RED LINE

Southbound trains will operate temporarily on southbound Purple Line tracks at the Argyle and Lawrence stations until 9 p.m. Saturday. Southbound Red Line trains will not stop at the Argyle or Lawrence stations. Northbound trains, which usually operate through the subway from Cermak/Chinatown to Fullerton, will be rerouted to the elevated tracks overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.

BLUE LINE The O’Hare branch will be on a single track between Grand and Division until mid-September. The single track will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. weekdays. Service will be suspended between the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations until 1 a.m. Monday.

BROWN LINE Trains will operate on a single track at the Kedzie station from 3 a.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Monday. The Spaulding Avenue auxiliary entrance to the Kedzie station also will be closed.

2 die in Indiana crash

Two Chinese educators visiting Valparaiso University died Friday morning when the vehicle they were riding in collided head-on with a semitrailer truck on U.S. Highway 30 in northwest Indiana, officials said. The driver of their vehicle, a professor at the university, was being treated for broken bones. Killed in the crash were Xiangyang Xu, 38, and Wei-Min Liu, 39, both of Hangzhou, China.

Big Ten: Comcast deal unlikely

Big Ten Network officials say the new TV network won’t be available to Comcast Cable subscribers when it starts broadcasting Aug. 30. The new network and the cable company have squabbled for months. The network wants to be a basic cable channel for Comcast subscribers; Comcast wants BTN to be part of a sports-channels package that subscribers pay more to see.
