Scott Kazmir struck out a franchise-record 13 batters in the Devil Rays’ 14-3 rout of the A’s. The left-hander struck out the side in the first inning on 12 pitches and recorded his first six outs on strikeouts. He retired 16 straight batters from the second to the seventh inning.

Placido Polanco had his errorless streak restored. He was given a throwing error in the first inning Friday, but a day later the scorer gave the error to first baseman Marcus Thames. Polanco now has gone 149 games without an error, a record for second basemen. But …

… That was all the good news for the Tigers as Jeremy Bonderman fell to 0-6 in his last eight starts after losing 7-2 to the Yankees. He gave up seven runs, eight hits and four walks with no Ks in 5 2/3. Opponents are hitting .388 against him the first inning.

Tim Hudson’s nine-game winning streak came to an end when St. Louis sent 10 men to the plate and scored five in the fifth for a 5-3 lead. The Braves righty, who hadn’t lost since June 4, had been 76-0 when given a lead of three or more runs, dating to Aug. 23, 2000.

Kyle Davies got roughed up again in his fifth start since the Royals acquired him in a July 31 trade with Atlanta, lasting two innings. The Indians batted around in a five-run first and Davies gave up seven runs and eight hits. He has a 7.48 ERA since joining Kansas City.
