Two for the price of one. Buy one, get one free. No matter what you call ’em, deals like these give you serious bang for your buck. We’ve scoured the city for deals that pay out whatever you put in, so you can fill your belly without draining your wallet.
APPETIZERS
Goodbar
2512 N. Halsted St. 773-296-9700
What’s so good about Goodbar? The weekly specials, for starters. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, this Lincoln Park spot dishes out two appetizers for the price of one. Double up on treats from the recently revised menu, such as macaroni and cheese wedges ($8), toasted raviolis ($7) and spinach-artichoke dip ($9).
Blu 47
4655 S. King Drive. 773-536-6000
This Bronzeville spot named its half-price appetizer special “School Teacher Tuesdays” to honor teachers who finish work at 3 p.m., but anyone can take advantage of the deal. Just stop in after 3 p.m. on a Tuesday and get any appetizer (except shrimp de Jonghe) for half-price. (We’re no math whizzes, but isn’t that about the same as a two-for-one deal?) Math lessons aside, you’ll dig savings of about $4.50 to $5.50 when you order tasty bites such as the grilled chicken lollipops ($8.95) and crab cakes ($10.95).
High Dive
1938 W. Chicago Ave. 773-235-3483
Since we’re talking math, let’s introduce fractions — as in, High Dive’s three-for-the-price-of-two Thursday appetizer special (a.k.a. buy two, get one free). Here’s an equation we like: Get the sashimi squares ($10), throw in some homemade crab and cream cheese wontons ($8), and score the Santa Fe spicy chicken egg rolls (three for $8) free.
ENTREES
Duke of Perth
2913 N. Clark St. 773-477-1741
Though regulars at this authentic Scottish pub like to nosh on the fish and chips and the Shepherd’s pie ($9.50 each), every entree on the menu is fair game during the bar’s Monday deal — just buy one entree, and get a second of equal or lesser value free. Other popular choices include burgers ($8.95) such as the Sean Connery, which is, as the menu says, “broiled, not sh-tirred” and piled with sauteed onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and your choice of melted cheese.
Candlelite Chicago
7452 N. Western Ave. 773-465-0087
Candlelite has been serving Rogers Park residents for 60 years, but the crowd-pleasing buy-one-get-one-free pizza deal wasn’t instituted until the current owners bought the place four years ago. Now when you order any two pizzas on a Tuesday, one of them is free. Our favorites include the white pizza with olive oil, goat cheese, parmesan, caramelized onion and roasted garlic, and the red pizza with sausage, roasted red peppers, provolone and mozzarella. Save up to $14.95, the price of a large pie. Deal applies to dine-in orders only.
Jury’s Food & Drink
4337 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-935-2255
The verdict is in: Jury’s is the place to be on Monday nights. You know the drill by now — buy one entree and get the second free. This North Center bar and grill caps your savings at $10, though, so if you want the steak and crab cake dinner ($21.95) and your pal wants the walleye pike ($15.95), they’ll only knock $10 off of your tab — not a full $15.95. Of course, if you have a cheap date who prefers the $7.50 burger to your more expensive entree, the burger will be free. Limit one per table, dine-in only.
