Jose Contreras got his first win as a starter in two months and rookie Josh Fields put the White Sox ahead with Chicago’s fourth home run of the seventh inning in a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday. Contreras (7-16), who leads the major leagues in losses, had dropped nine straight starts since beating Florida on June 18 and had lost 13 of 14.
— The game was a makeup of a May 26 rainout and was played before thousands of empty seats at U.S. Cellular Field. Announced attendance was 37,030.
— Charles Albert “Chuck” Comiskey II, grandson and namesake of the White Sox founder and a former front-office executive and co-owner during the “Go Go Sox” years in the 1950s, has died. He was 81.
